AOPA Accident Forgiveness and Deductible Waiver
    Enhancement

"I don't plan on ever having an accident, but it's nice to know that if the unthinkable happens, the ASF online courses I've been taking for years could save me a whole lot of money."
— Alan Peterson,
Chartis Aerospace Policyholder

Over two years ago, the AOPA Insurance Agency, Chartis Aerospace, and AOPA joined the AOPA Air Safety Foundation initiative aimed at improving pilot safety while helping to lower a pilot's out-of-pocket expenses in the event of an accident. USAIG, Phoenix Aviation Managers, Starr Aviation, and Global Aerospace have also adapted the program to select policies available to their clients. Through this collaboration, these four carriers offer accident forgiveness and deductible reward programs to support their client pilots' participation in the AOPA Air Safety Foundation program.

Why Participate?

Free, easy, and worth every minute of your time, AOPA Air Safety Foundation online courses and live safety seminars are the best way for busy pilots to stay on the top of their game. Now there's another great advantage for safety-minded pilots — the AOPA Accident Forgiveness and Deductible Waiver Enhancement.

Available on select insurance policies underwritten by Chartis Aerospace*, USAIG, Phoenix Aviation Managers**, Starr Aviation, and Global Aerospace****, this valuable coverage enhancement waives part of the policy's deductible and—even better—prevents the policy renewal rate from increasing as a result of the accident.

How to Qualify:

Simply participate in qualifying AOPA Air Safety Foundation safety education every six months to qualify for the AOPA Accident Forgiveness and Deductible Waiver Enhancement.

There are two convenient safety education options: online courses and live safety seminars.

An hour or two is all it takes!

Learn more in less time with a free AOPA Air Safety Foundation online course. Select from a number of self-paced, interactive topics and enjoy the informative, engaging content wherever and whenever you choose.

Prefer to make a night of it? Attend one of the more than 200 free AOPA Air Safety Foundation live safety seminars offered each year throughout the United States. It's a great way to learn from professional instructors while enjoying the company of your fellow pilots. Plus, no pre-registration is required! Visit www.aopa.org/asf/accidentforgiveness/ for a complete listing of qualified courses and seminars.

Step-By-Step:

To qualify, only one of the options below must have been completed in the six months prior to the accident.

Option 1: Complete a qualifying AOPA Air Safety Foundation online course and print the personalized completion certificate provided.

Option 2: Attend a qualifying AOPA Air Safety Foundation live safety seminar, complete the registration card provided on-site, and drop it off with the instructor before you leave. A personalized safety seminar attendance certificate will be mailed to the address provided on the registration card.

*This enhancement is available for all Chartis Aerospace or USAIG non-commercial ownership and rental policies for gliders and piston-powered airplanes. Chartis Aerospace or USAIG will waive all accident/claim/surcharges so long as the accident pilot (be it named insured, permissive named pilot or even a pilot flying under the Open Pilot Warranty) involved in the covered loss on a Chartis Aerospace or USAIG policy provides proof of completion of a qualifying AOPA Air Safety Foundation online course or live safety seminar during the six-month policy period prior to the loss. Additionally, will waive up to $100 of policy deductible.

**This accident forgiveness benefit is available for all Phoenix Aviation Managers policies covering any land aircraft issued on PAM-AV-2(07-01) which is solely used for Pleasure & Business. The accident forgiveness benefit shall also apply for any sea aircraft issued on PAM-AV-2(07-01) which is solely used for Pleasure & Business, however any policy discounts previously applied for accident-free/claims-free experience will no longer be applied. In addition to the accident forgiveness benefits, Phoenix Aviation Managers will waive the in-motion policy deductible for all applicable in-motion aircraft occurrences up to a maximum of $500.

***This enhancement is available for all Starr Aviation policies for aircraft which are used solely for pleasure & business and which include the "Accident Forgiveness Endorsement". Starr Aviation will waive the policy deductible up to a maximum of $500.

****This enhancement is available for all Global Aerospace policies for piston-powered aircraft which are used solely for Pleasure & Business. Global Aerospace will waive all accident/claim surcharges so long as the accident pilot (be it named insured, permissive named pilot or even a pilot flying under the Open Pilot Warranty) involved in the covered loss on a Global Aerospace policy provides proof of completion of a qualifying Air Safety Institute online course or live safety seminar during the six-month policy period prior to the loss. Additionally, Global Aerospace will waive the entire policy deductible.

Important: The online course or live safety seminar must be completed prior to the accident, not afterwards, to qualify the policyholder for this enhancement. Certain accident types are not eligible for this enhancement. These are only the more serious situations, such as a loss which results from fuel exhaustion, flying "under the influence" of drugs or alcohol, or knowingly flying with an expired medical certificate or flight review. If required, indivudals may need to qualify for sport pilots with no medical requirement.

This enhancement will apply to a maximum of one loss in any 36-calendar-month period. So long as a pilot continues to complete a qualifying AOPA Air Safety Foundation online course or live safety seminar every six months, and remains claim-free for 36 calendar months following the first loss, a second loss after 36 calendar months would also be eligible for this enhancement. A second loss within 36 calendar months of the first loss, however, would subject the policy to a surcharge.
